I don't take my guinea pigs to the vet for annual check-ups. I keep pretty good track of their health. I do take them for a baseline visit when they're healthy, sometime soon after I adopt them. I made that mistake with Bertie - her first visit was after she wasn't feeling well. Her illness was subtle in the beginning and I believe baseline records would have helped.
Boadicea needed a refill of arthritis medication, so I took the opportunity to bring them both and get Wedgwood on the books.
I'm so pleased that these two are good travelers; they don't fuss and are fairly calm. It makes the trip go so much faster when pigs aren't screaming at each other because no one wants to share the cozy.
Wedgwood was a hit at the vet. She was oohed and aahed over by several people. She was really good at being manhandled. I wish I had been able to get a video of it - Wedg tried washing her face with one paw as the vet was checking her belly. She was totally unfazed... right up until her teeth were checked. You're not sticking that in my mouth!
What surprised me the most was Wedgie barely said a peep. Any time I pick her up, she's talking and grousing in minutes. She was silent during the entire exam, not so much as a grunt. Didn't even give the stink eye when it was all done. What a good pig.
Other than being a bit of a pudge, Wedgwood got a clean bill of health. Yay! Two healthy pigs. Let's keep it that way for a while, shall we?
How nice that they are good travelers, especially for a trip to the vet. I love the picture of the two sharing the cozy, fore and aft view :)
