I Like Thursday: Cape and Companions

Had a great time down at the Cape for an annual Chick Weekend.

The morning I left a neighbor had harvested a bunch of her sunflowers.  They were in a bucket at the end of her driveway, marked FREE.  She urged us to take a few as we passed on our morning walk.  I did.  I was afraid they'd be dead by the time I returned home, so I packed them with me to the Cape. They had a rough trip, but perked up quite nicely when we arrived.  The were cheerful all weekend.  Everyone liked them.

She still had a few left when I returned.  I had left these ones behind (I hope my aunt liked them!) and picked up three more at home.

The long trip to the Cape was made longer by stopping in Newton to pick up my very own Oru kayak.  Excitement!  I have one just like my sister's (it may be an old model, but I got it at a great price!).  My sister was pretty happy, too - we went kayaking together three times over the weekend.  We tried out a local kettle pond one day, which was quite nice.

We spent evenings playing games.  We played Quirkle several times.

Along with the huge signs warning people of shark attacks on both the ocean and bay side of the Cape, I found this sign down at Campground.  Can you even get rip currents over sand flats?  It sounds like you're taking your life into your own hands to try visiting the beach!

We all loved the ocean after the storm.  The cliff was packed with people admiring the waves.  We, of course, came down for a closer look.  I love the power of the waves.  Just like last year, I got rather wet.  At least I was barefoot - a couple people in our group got caught by a wave with their shoes on.  Ew!  Wet shoes!

I also really liked the way the waves dug out some of the heavier rocks.

One of the gals shot this as we returned to the parking lot.  She called it The Mod Squad shot.  Just imagine it in slow motion like out of the moves.  LOL.  Don't we look so cool?

(Yeah, maybe not.  But it's entertaining, regardless.)

The Target Ship of Cape Code Bay was a sight to see from the 1940s until it disappeared in a storm in 1996 (has it been that long?).  This replica (a float in the parade) was great!  I wish I still had my drawings  of it I made as a kid.  It deteriorated so quickly over the years.

I was amused at all my friends taking photos of the beach at sunset.  (Which made me no better, since I was photographing them.)  It was pretty.  Thursday night's sunset was way better - no photos, though.  We spent our time marveling at the colors.

Whew!  That's it for this week.  But if you're looking for more fun things that went on this week, be sure to head over to Not Afraid of Color's I Like Thursday.

  4. Hi Sally! What a lovely kayak! How nice that you got to paddle with your sister. I've always wanted to try and master that sport. I've never heard of Quirkle - it looks like it should be a quilt top. LOVE the Mod Squad photo!! I find people taking photos of whatever catches their eye assuming, too - especially when there is a few of them doing it. Hmm - do I need to take a photo too?!! ~smile~ Roseanne

  6. Loved the mod squad pic, and you taking pics of everyone taking pic of the sunset. I should learn to kayak. But there isn't much water around here I would want to be dunked in. Gorgeous sunflowers.
