Halloween Happenings

We had unseasonably warm weather on Thursday for Halloween.  I thought I would be going on a solo mission to the town center.  But last minute, my sister was able to come with her partner and brought our mom.  I also convinced Rob to come, so we were a crowd!  

I'm always so impressed with the decorations.  This buffet was my favorite.  A ghostly twisted Mad Hatter tea?  Down the street from them is a rocking graveyard which is always fun to see. 

So many terrific costumes.  A large group came as Sesame Street.  Dig Oscar!  They had the tiniest Big Bird I've ever seen.  There was Gonzo, Ernie and Bert, Cookie Monster and probably a few others. 

There were Star Wars characters, several ghost busters (and a dog dressed up as Slimer), Wizard of Oz and all sorts of other characters.  The jellyfish were quite stunning as it got darker.  The little dog in Halloween pajamas was really cute.  So many creative people.

I never get tired of the scarecrow on the green - very scary!  If a child is too frightened to take a candy, they're told the magic words and he'll step right back (then they dart in quick to claim their prize!).  There was a Catbus this year on the green (can you see Totoro on top?).  The dumpster fire was impressive.

One place had charts of the number of trick-or-treaters (people that actually stop and took a candy) and the duration of festivities over the years.  If I remember correctly, last year had 699 trick-or-treaters - and that's not counting all the adults that don't take a treat.  That's a lot of people. 

We left just as a jazzy band started to lead a parade down the street.  They were grooving!  One of these years I need to bring candy to hand out and set up on the green to watch the whole thing.  A good time was had by all!
