Adding Corners

The Midnight Garden star blocks are finally getting their corners attached.  Normally I'd attach the four corners to a block and move onto the next blocks.  In this quilt, however, I'm attaching one corner to four different blocks at a time.  I attached the first handful of corners one set at a time.  This week I tried doing two at a time and briefly panicked when it appeared I sewed a corner to the wrong block.  Each kaleidoscope foursome is unique, but it turns out a few of them look really similar.

Whew.

One would think I'd be done with the rulers by this stage, but they're getting used while pinning each corner.  I want to make sure the corner piece is centered to the block (not necessarily perfectly lined up with the diamond) and will square up.  I circled all the spots I check when pinning the piece on top.  My first four completed blocks look great.  I should get another couple of complete blocks by the time this post gets published.

The kaleidoscope pieces are all on my second wall.  There's plenty left but they're all within reach (I needed a step stool to put the full set up there).  I'm selecting them so I don't have two similar patterns next to each other on the completed quilt.  It's been fun to pick each one.  I will enjoy watching the fabric on this wall shrink over the next couple of weeks.

  2. This is looking just amazing, Sally! It looks and sounds very complicated, but you're making it work. Is this a gift for someone? If so, that is a very lucky recipient!
