Welcome to this week's likes. It's going to be over the place.
I have always been fascinated how people can pin their hair up with chopsticks. I bought this pair of child-sized chopsticks years ago (possibly last century?). I couldn't get them to work, so I split them up to use around the house. Recently I found both pieces and gave them another try. Hey! It works! (mostly)
My little car has officially been branded as mine. The photo is kind of small to read, but the bumper stickers are Namaste, HANDS4 FROM THE TOP, and PEACE LOVE GUINEA PIGS. Added bonus - I'm hoping it will help me find my car in the parking lot. I discovered it's hard to find in the lot since it's the same nondescript sedan as so many others.
I happened to glance out the window on Tuesday morning from my desk to find the area shrouded in fog. It had been clear just before and it dissipated a few minutes after I snapped the photos. If I hadn't glanced up at that moment, I'd have missed it entirely.
Pretty, isn't it?
After a few bitterly cold days (for New England - my friends in Minnesota would be laughing at me), it's been crazily unseasonably warm (highs in the upper 50s). Although the warmth is concerning regarding climate change, it didn't stop me from getting out and enjoying the warmth and the sun on my face.
I'm reading Watership Down. I had recently watched a remake on Netflix. It was pretty good, but it reminded me that the book was better. This may be my third time reading it? It's been like catching up with old friends.
Went to a contra dance Friday night. The last waltz was quite nice; a tune we didn't recognize. My partner asked the band for the name and later told me it was weird, like Salmon on a Table. What? An inquiry or two later I discovered it was named Samen Op de Tractor. Both names make about as much sense. I'm glad I could find it to listen to it again.
Speaking of favorite waltzes - two of my favorites are Scott Joplin's Bethena and Steciak's Waltz. Good stuff!
I like that I've been in the sewing room several times this week. Cleaned them sewing machine after those Drapes of Doom. Cleaned up my sewing table from the last quilt. Made some mini HST blocks. Started work on some new scrappy blocks. Oh, it feels good to play again.
A very good start to February. I'm sure there's more good stuff over at Not Afraid of Color's I Like Thursday. Enjoy!
you have a beautiful work view! Mine is a bit more back yard-y, but with trees nonetheless. :)
ReplyDeleteYour fog pictures are beautiful! How lucky to catch them! I always wondered about the chopstick thing, too, although my hair would be too short to ever give it a try. Hooray for playing in the sewing room - always my favorite thing to do, too!
ReplyDeleteI use to chopstick my hair, back in the day. I love the foggy photos.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning! Well, look at you welding the chopsticks like you've done it all your life! My hair is too short for fun things like that, but that is very cool! I find fog in general to be very fascinating. It just kind of wisps in, like little fingers wrapping around objects slowing and changing the whole dynamics of the space. Your dancing sounds like fun with beautiful music. ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeleteThe photos of the sunlight filtering through the fog and the trees are so pretty. I can barely figure out how to make my hair stay in a pony tail so I'm impressed with your chopsticks. Hope you have a great Thursday!
ReplyDeleteoh how haunting and beautiful the samen waltz... I wish I'd been there to waltz too. The fog was a little gift as was 50 deg. We woke to -4 this morning! Cold for us. I'm listening to the waltz and it sounds vaguely Russian. thanks for the music. Where did you get the hands 4 sticker? LeeAnna
ReplyDeleteHow pretty to have that vista from your work area. One thing about weather-it provides great photo ops. Glad to hear the little ones are okay. Yes, it sounds like February is off to a good start esp. with those lovely warm temps.
ReplyDeleteSally - it's easy to get so focused on the 'work' at hand that we miss the beauty right outside our window. Glad you got those mysterious fog pictures to share with the rest of us. And thanks for your recent visit to my blog!
ReplyDeleteThe fog is so pretty! We've had a lot here too recently but not so lovely as yours. I love the peace love guinea pigs sticker!!
ReplyDeleteI won't tell you I can use a pencil, pen....downside is I go out in public forgetting my hair is up like that. Love the foggy pictures.
ReplyDeleteI love it when fog enshrouds everything, but sometimes it disappears as quickly as it came, doesn't it. Lovely photo. I must say your hair and the chopsticks look very chic.
ReplyDeleteI love photos of foggy scenes! Yours are so cool! Love the chopstick hairstyle! Wouldn't work in my hair because it's so heavy but I wish it would! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI used to have hair I could put up with sticks, but could never get them to stay. They kept falling out of my hair all day. I remember reading Watership Down in high school, it was one year's book report. It's funny what pops into my head when someone else mentions something I've read before. I'll have to go back and read it again. Thanks for the memories and the fog. Your outside world looks so peaceful.
