OMG March Finish

March's goal was to make a stack of 160 HST for my Sunny Lanes quilt.  I finished, then made 40 more HST and 36 more checkerboard squares because I decided to enlarge the quilt.

No more expanding!

I love the little pile of trimmings from my HST.  They're all the same size.  That can't be said for the little checkerboard squares, but they're close.

I Like Thursday: Spring Is Springing

The week and weekend flew by!  The weather has been lovely.  Met with a friend on Sunday to walk at Quabbin.  The shattered ice was pretty.  I love how it shaded from dark grey to white.  (Made me think of a quilt.  Hmmmm...)

Project Quilting 12.6: From the Sunroom

The last project for this season's Project Quilting ends today.  I figured out what I wanted to create days ago.  I had time to sketch it out, but didn't get a chance to start it until yesterday.  I'm glad it was a small project - cut, appliqued, quilted and bound in one day.

I Like Thursday: Lots of Goodies

I've been doing!  Just not posting.  Some highlights of my week:

I like baking.  Rob wanted to capture an action shot.  Irish soda bread was cooling while chocolate oatmeal bars and cheesecake stuffed cookie were in the oven.  I was mixing together peanut butter sandwich cookies.  This is typical - ingredients and recipes scattered across the countertop.  I never bake just one thing!

I Like Thursday: Signs of Spring

The snow is melting!  Even though I'd like another chance to snowshoe, I really like the signs of spring.  The maple syrup buckets popped up in the neighborhood.  One day nothing but bare trees, the next there were dozens and dozens of buckets.  If it's quiet you can hear the plink-plink of the sap dripping.

When I went to Swanson's Fabrics I heard of making jackets out of old quilts.  Have you heard of this?  (Maybe I'm behind the times.)  Then I found this article.  They're really beautiful.

So Many Colors

I tried out yet another fabric store (New England Fabrics) on Saturday.  The good news is, I found more of the colors I was looking for.  I also found some bargain fabric for backing.  And I went a little crazy getting more than I probably need for my projects as well as splurging a bit for myself.  The bad news is - it still isn't Ryco.  Next time I am buying for a project, I will make the pilgrimage down to RI.  I will be so much happier.

Want to guess how many yards I netted in my two weekend trips?

I Like Thursday: Lots to Do

It was a good week - lots to like.  We'll see if I can speed-write another blog post, though, because it's been a busy week as well.

Baked some more.  This mess is an upside-down cheesy biscuit bake (downsized for two).  That topping is bacon, maple syrup and brown sugar.  Decadent.  We had it for breakfast on Sunday.  Recipe is here.

Project Quilting 12.5: Crazy Postcard

The latest Project Quilting challenge was crazy quilting. I already have a bunch of crazy quilt oven mitts that I've made over the years.  This time I decided I wanted to add embroidered embellishments and some beads.  Rather than go for a mug rug, I decided to try making a postcard.

I had some scraps of black velvet which would have been perfect for this.  But as I dug through my stash I vaguely recall ditching it in our last move.  I had to settle for some scraps of flannel and stretch cotton.  I even managed to dig out some heavy interfacing.  Bonus!

What to Do Next?

Projects are percolating in my head.  It's causing me to change directions in one quilt, possibly two.

I needed fabric to get the Icy Waters quilt off the ground.  And of course when I go shopping for one type of fabric, I come home with lots more.

First stop was Swanson's Fabric.  This is wild store - like a fabric thrift shop.  I found a couple of yards of fabric I liked and some spools of thread all for $11.  They have tons of buttons, all sorts of yarn and lots of different kinds of fabric.  I need to think of some project that needs buttons, just to go back.
