Orion

Meet Orion, our latest foster guinea pig from Dakin Humane.  Isn't he a handsome little guy?

Orion is unusual.  We've fostered some guinea pigs that don't know how to be a guinea pig.  He does fine in that department.  He is extremely friendly and loves human contact.  He's super easy to catch and pick up.  No fear, so he's clearly used to being handled.  That's great.

Orion was so curious when I first opened up his carry case.  But since then he's been really sedentary.  I introduced him to the various levels of the cage - usually even the most frightened guinea pig will run laps in the evening once the cage is covered.  He has not ventured upstairs since the day he arrived.  He eats like a pig - everything has been delicious, except cilantro.  However, he expects all food to be placed in front of his nose.  He won't go searching for it, so the games I often set up for piggies (hanging food from the grids, stuffing paper tubes or the egg-cersizer) sit unused and uneaten.

He sleeps heavily, which isn't bad.  That means he's comfortable with his surroundings.  But it also makes me think he's an older pig.

Orion has been here less than a week.  He's been a good guest so far and we'll continue to see how we get along.

  3. Maybe he is an old sad curmudgeon-y pig. He sure is handsome though.
