Now that I've finished the 228 black-and-silver triangles it's time to work on the grey-and-black ones!
You may recall I decided to cut the fabric a little larger (maybe an eighth of
an inch) than the pattern called for. I then made myself a set of
plexiglass templates to help cut the stitched together diamonds and larger
triangles down to size. I ended up marking my templates with various
guide lines to help ensure I get all the pesky points in the right
place. Seems to be working pretty well so far... but the final test will
be when I stitch together the full blocks.
A reader asked me how I was pressing my seams to deal with so many points. In past pointy projects I've had the best luck in pressing all my seams open. I hate pressing open seams - fiddling with those small allowances and singing my fingers. Regardless, that's what I've committed to do with this project (all except for a couple of early pieces that I ironed to one side without thinking).
I stitched together a half-block that looks pretty good - it lays flat and I have to look carefully to find the non-matching points. I'm about halfway through making the grey and black triangles. Then I can start assembling blocks in earnest!
I'm sure your blocks are all going to be stitched together perfectly. You've got a great system going and you've thought of everything!
