I Like Thursday: Marching On

Thursday again?  Time to share the good things of the week with LeeAnna's friends over at I Like Thursday.

I finally started my seeds.  Maybe I'll see some green sprouting stuff in a week?  Monday was so chilly, but more spring weather is just around the corner.

My physical therapist is quite happy with my progress over the last few weeks.  My reward?  Harder tasks, of course!

Lots of Clean Edges

Woot!  I made my goal!  The Icy Waters quilt is done, bound and labeled.  All I need is a good day to properly photograph it and send it on it's way.

Additionally, Shady Lanes is quilted and bound.  I need to go back and fix several spots of skipped stitches.  A few days of hand stitching that binding and putting on a label... I might actually finish this by the end of the month, too.

I Like Thursday: Spring is Springing

Ahh.... It's Thursday!  Time to share some good stuff with LeeAnna's I Like Thursday!

I like my series of quilts from this year's Project Quilting.  I participated in all six challenges.  I had a lot of fun trying out a variety of paper pieced patterns and working through a bunch of scraps.

Project Quilting 13.6: Colorful Flying Geese

This is the last of this year's Project Quilting challenges.  The challenge was flying geese.  Too bad I made my circle of geese last challenge!

I made my own paper piece pattern for this.  I had to make a second strip of the little geese because I forgot to add the seam allowance and I lopped off to much fabric.

I still haven't made a dent in my scraps!  I love all the colors in this.

It finished up about 9.5 x 10".  I have quite a collection of mug rugs now!

I Like Thursday: St Patty's Day

Not much to share with LeeAnna's group for I Like Thursday.  Life is good - just busy and routine.

I have Icy Colors bound.  Still needs a bunch of fixes, but it's so nice to see it with clean edges.  So exciting!

This week's Project Quilting challenge is flying geese.  I made my own paper pieced pattern for this one.  I got confused with the lines on one of the pieces and cut off the seam allowance (the extra piece on the left).  Bummer.  I still had scraps of most of the colors I used in it, so I made another nearly the same.

My sister and I have started up another computer game on Sunday evenings.  Looking forward to that.

Quilting, work, errands.  There went my week!

Are you celebrating St. Patrick's Day?  We had corned beef earlier this week, and if I can squeeze in the time, I hope to bake some Irish soda bread tonight.

Mostly Done - Finally

I've quilted the last block of Icy Colors.  I can't believe the quilting is done.  I have at least a dozen repairs to do.  I've pinned various spots where I found skipped stitches - there's at least five in this photo.  There's also one tiny piece that's waiting for the binding before quilting.  So close.

I have binding picked out and I've started work on the label.  I pushed through Sunday to have the quilting done before I looked at this week's Project Quilting challenge (I'm amused that it's flying geese, after what I made last challenge).

I Like Thursday: Chilling

We were supposed to get less than two inches of snow Wednesday.  I went out for a walk mid-afternoon and there was at least three inches at that point.  I'm glad I got out.  Very pretty, but with a few warm days coming up it will disappear quickly.

All the maple buckets were covered in snow.

I only got back to quilting Icy Colors last night.  There are 17 blocks left to quilt and 22 days to do it.  Think I can make it?

Not much else this week to share with LeeAnna's I Like Thursday.  Work, computer (which is running great!), family and physical therapy has kept me busy.  Maybe more fun stuff next week.

Project Quilting 13.5: Circle of Geese

I have continued with the paper pieced rug mug theme I seemed to have fallen into for this year's Project Quilting.  Turns out that's perfect for this week's challenge of rhythm and repetition.  I picked a circle of geese pattern that I had bookmarked ages ago and shrunk it down to finish at about 10" square.

Once I picked the pattern, I dug through my scrap bin.  Initially I wanted blue geese, then found a bunch of greens.  They ended up not playing well together so I moved onto a ton of little neutral bits.  Those looked lovely against my large scrap of blue.

I briefly panicked that I'd run out of the blue before finishing the block.  Definitely not enough left to bind with, but found a chunk of light blue that fit the bill.  Geese in a clear blue sky!

I was happy to give my little Singer 99 some more work with the piecing and quilting.  This quilt goes nicely with my growing row of mug rugs for this season.

I Like Thursday: Back Up and Running

I'm so happy to be able to share with Lee Anna's I Like Thursday this week.  I am typing this on my new laptop, which arrived two days earlier than promised.  Huzzah.  Spending a week limping by on a tablet and a 14 year old under-powered laptop wasn't fun.  (Doing my taxes took forever - but yay!  they're done too!)

Sewing!  Totally missed my February OMG.  But lots of quilting done and I'm working on this week's Project Quilting challenge.  I'm hoping to wrap it up tonight.  I didn't want to change out my free motion setup, so I pulled out my little 99 to piece together the circle of geese.  My sewing room is so chaotic right now.

March OMG

Wait, it's March?  Well, considering my laptop crashed last week, I guess there's a number of reasons I missed my February OMG.  I quilted two-thirds of one quilt and half of another - so one could argue I actually did accomplish my February goal.  However, I didn't have the finished product I was hoping for.  Project Quilting also ran some interference with my focus.  Oh, well.

That make's March's goal easy - to have Icy Colors quilted, bound and ready to gift.  There's still several hours of quilting and binding left to do, but I'm motivated to finish it.  My machine tends to skip on the medium green fabric; otherwise quilting has been steadily progressing.
