Finished Quilt #3

Woot!  I wasn't sure if I'd manage to finish this in time for my April OMG.  But it's complete!  I have one repair I need to do, but that should be finished before the end of the day.  Weather looks promising tomorrow to get photos, which means it could be in the mail as early as Monday.  That would be lovely!

One more quilting UFO to go, and I can start tackling some smaller projects.  I have lots more scraps and selvedges to sew together.  Then there's a few fix-it projects like sewing down some neoprene patches and replacing some velcro fasteners.  Then I can move onto some new projects, like a yoga mat and sweatshirt applique.  Oh, yeah, and start to work on the dollhouse.  Whew!

I Like Thursday: Flowers, Rock Fort and Toast

Ooh - it's been a fun week.  Good things to share with I Like Thursday.  Thanks for hosting, LeeAnna!

Said goodbye to a coworker on Friday.  She helped land me my current job, of which I am grateful!  That was sad - but we our group together for lunch, which was great.  I also got the chance to deliver some of my Easter candy (which is always a hit).

Stopped off at a friend's on the way home.  He had these daffodils by the front door.  Look at how frilly they are!  They were beautiful.

Domino

We're fostering Domino from the Dakin Shelter.  He's a just-barely-adult boar has found himself recently transferred in from another shelter.

Harlequin Opal

Another finished quilt!  this is a long-overdue wedding present.  When I asked for colors I was asked to use jewel tones.  I chose batiks since they have such rich colors.  Besides, I find it easier to work a paper pieced pattern when I don't have to worry which side is up.

The pattern is called Icy Waters and I used a working name of Icy Colors as I blogged about it.  But that's not what I wanted to name a wedding quilt.  Did you know that harlequin opal is a gemstone that has colors similar to this quilt?  I stumbled across that while searching for a good name.  Google it! It's pretty.  And a great name.  So may I present Harlequin Opal:

It took a long time for this quilt to take off.  I loved the colors of the fabric I bought, but not how they looked together.  After two false starts, I swapped the single color from the pattern with lighter greens, blue and pink.  I changed my mind again once I started sewing them together, but stuck with what I was doing.  I liked it, then hated it and freaked out over it.  For better or worse, that's how my creative process works... so I plunged on.  I really like how it turned out in the end (and so do the recipients!).  I'm glad I persisted.

I Like Thursday: Critters and Candies

Ooh, some fun uplifting stuff to share with LeeAnna's I Like Thursday this week.  Let's start with the cute piggy that arrived on Tuesday afternoon.  This is Domino, who is torn between being terrified and endlessly curious.  I'll give him a day or three to make up his mind.  Hopefully I can get better photos.  But his first night here he got to thumpa-thumpa-ing all over the cage once we covered it.

Yay!  Shady Lanes is done, labeled, photographed and delivered!

It was a big surprise for my friend.  She loves it.

I Like Thursday: Sunshine and Sprouts

It's Thursday!  Time to link up with LeeAnna's I Like Thursday to share good things that happened this week.

Finally there was sun enough for long enough to photograph two of my finished quilts.  This is Shady Lane's back - the front will have to wait until after it's gifted... which should be soon!  The photographs aren't perfect, but enough that I'm willing to part with the quilts.

The bummer with this beautiful strong sun was that I found five spots of skipped stitches.  I ended up ripping and re-quilting when I thought it was all done!

I Like Thursday: Peeps and a Bun

I really thought I'd have more photos to share with LeeAnna's I Like Thursday group.  But somehow the weekend and the early part of the week got away from me.

Last year I discovered that peeps mysteriously appear around here in the spring.  A neighborhood April Fools joke?  I found these three on the bridge this weekend.  A neighbor messaged me to ask if I had peeped his mailbox.  Not me!

We also met a new neighbor this week; he'll be building a house on our street.  An interesting guy.  I had feared when the lot was cleared that it was in prep for a huge house.  But he's looking to build a small home for him and his wife.  The cleared land is to raise some livestock and garden; they're looking to live self-sufficiently.  Neat!

Spent Sunday with my mom.  We always enjoy when she comes to visit.

I'm starting to see some sprouts in my seed trays.  Yay!

I've finished binding my second quilt.  I'm having thread issues while quilting the third one, but I'm hoping to spend some time with it this weekend.  Now I need some sunshine and no wind to get some good photos!

April OMG

Little by little I'm getting there.  This month's goal is to knock off another baby quilt:  quilt, bind and label it ready for shipping.  If all goes well, I'll finish both this month.  However, I'm known for having life get in the way of sewing.

I have Sunrise's quilting pattern picked out and I've been auditioning thread.
