My sister wanted some seat cushions for her dining room chairs. She asked my mother to stitch them up... at which point they came to me to see what fabric I could offer.
I dug through my stash, brought out some orphaned blocks before pulling out several sets of crumb blocks.
As you can see, there was a lot of crumb blocks to choose from. My sister liked the multi-colored pieces the best. It appeared there was enough of those to make maybe three cushions at 16 inches square. She selected green as a backup in case I couldn't get a full set.
By the time I got around to assembling the blocks we had changed our estimate to 18-inch squares to allow for seam allowances and such. A season of Project Quilting had generated some more crumbs and I hacked apart a few of my orphaned blocks a well as some of the smaller single-colored crumb blocks. Between them all I cobbled together three 18-inch blocks and one 17x18 inch block - which should be just big enough.
I had intended to quilt the crumbs to a layer of batting and be done with it. All I wanted was to give the top layer a bit more strength since it had a zillion seams. However, my machine wanted nothing doing with that, so I ended up layering a proper sandwich to quilt them. This was not so bad - it rid my stash of several pieces of fabric I had bought ages ago and either hated or couldn't use. This used up almost all my frankensteined batting, half of my orphaned blocks and a few half-spools of thread. Yes!
I managed to break only one needle with a direct hit to a really thick, lumpy seam. That's pretty good given the number of lumpy seams in these blocks!
Now they're off to my mother. I'll be sure to post pictures when the cushions are done.
