By Request

I had not intended to look for foster guinea pigs until after NEFFA weekend, but when Dakin Humane called and asked if I could foster a pair of young boars, how could I say no?

Meet Moses and Brownie.

They're certainly cute.  However... the reason I was asked to take them was that shelter life was stressing them out.  Moses and Brownie were chasing and spatting.  We had a calm ride home and the two boys settled right in, explored the cage, then took a nap.

That was the quiet before the storm.

The in-your-face chattering and ninja leap attacks started after dinner.  My first impression is that Moses is getting a little too full of himself.  He was right in Brownie's face.  Brownie doesn't look eager to engage, but is not backing down to this pipsqueak punk.

The shelter may have triggered the stress fighting, but these two are acting like teenagers.  Ugh.  Teenage boys - I think that's worse.

When Brownie and Moses are not sparing, they are eating together (and often napping next to each other).  All is quiet for a while.  Ah... peace.

Moses is whirlwind of energy:  chewing on the hay rack, the bars, the fleece, and suddenly ninja-jumping Brownie.  He's the smaller of the two and has baby-soft hair (with some long tufts around his ears and backside).  I can already see he's a sassy PITA.

Brownie is inquisitive and I'm starting to suspect he's a bit insecure.  He rumbles around the cage and chatters very loudly at Moses and me.  It's rather scary sounding, but he ruins the effect by running away from me as he chatters.

I'm not fond of the yawning they do to each other (see how big my teeth are?!?).  But it's better if they throw insults and not physically wound each other.

I was a little worried over them last night and brought up the spare cage in case they needed to be separated.  Everything was in order when I removed the cover from the cage this morning.  I'm hoping some quiet time and the large cage (with lots of space to get away from each other) will keep the peace.  If not... I have begun to think about the Stew Pot.

Wish us luck!
