I Like Thursday: Happy Boxing Day

Another year nearly over.  One last I Like post for 2024.

I've been enjoying the wood stove in our sunroom.  Still learning how much wood to put in and when.  I've spent a few relaxing afternoons watching the birds and the fire.  Ahhhh... very zen.

I took a few days off last week.  Spent several hours sewing.   I've finished my 448 diamonds needed for the Midnight Garden quilt.  I'm so pleased with the results.  The four pieces in each diamond aren't all perfectly matched, but you can't see it unless you're inspecting the pieces.

I'm currently playing with the orientation of the diamonds and possibly swapping one of the background fabrics.  Then I need to learn how to kaleidoscope cut the block corners.  It's been a fun project so far.  (Unnerving at times, but fun!)

Check out my potential layouts - the original set and a lighter set.  Which do you like best?

Rob and I went to MASS MoCA last week.  We enjoyed many of the installations - enough weird and whimsy to satisfy us both.

We both enjoyed Amy Podmore's Audience.  So much to look at - so many details.  I loved all the different baskets.  The "pings" of the blinking eyes were soothing to listen to.  It was a massive wall of baskets (and on a weekday afternoon, we had it to ourselves).  I videoed it; I'm not sure if you can catch any blinking eye but you can listen to how it sounds.

This Prayer for the Internet caught my eye as well.  More on the artist and the installation here: Petra Szilagyi.

Then there was the djinn you needed to give a password to get through a gateway, and a cage full of flying carpets (that were currently grounded by technical difficulties).  All of it was interesting!

I really like we had a chance to go out for dinner - we've postponed this for months because of health or timing or whatever.  It was nice to celebrate.  Yay!

Celebrated Christmas at my sisters with fondue dinner.  I took Boxing Day off to recover and to chill.  I hope you are enjoying the holidays!

  2. Love your sunroom! And what a nice stove. There's a video of "Audience" on Podmore's website with close-ups of the eyes, if anyone is curious. I was!

  3. That's a wonderful view out your sunroom windows - I can see how it would be very Zen out there, especially with birds to see. Interesting exhibits at the art museum! You're on an amazing roll with the new quilt project - I'm enjoying following along!
