I dug up a few different complimentary colors before we agreed on some bright blues and oranges. I settled on a pattern - and then we bought a pizza to confirm the box size. Yummy!
There are three different blues - but it turns out the medium blue and the electric blue were so close in shade. Oh, well! I cleared out a couple of oranges in my stash, and had been glad I had so much of that blue with the dragonflies. Most of the fabric and the Insul-Bright came from Swanson's fabrics - so this was an inexpensive project!
As usual, this was a plan-as-I-go project. that meant I didn't think
about the flap until after I had quilted the two big panels. Well, that
was silly. I made the flap, quilted it, and was all set to attach it in
a quilt-as-you-go technique when I cut through the outer fabric as I was
straightening the batting. I was rapidly running out of time to complete
the project, and now put myself even further behind. Sheesh.
I finished the project in time to submit (on instagram), but not in time to blog about it. Getting photos were challenging - the camera did not like the contrasting colors. this first set captures the blue the best. The second set is a bit more of the electric blue, although the oranges are still a little intense.
Rob wonders if he will get requests when he shows up to the pizza place with this!

That's a fun idea, Sally! And also very pretty with the complimentary colors. Did you use a special batting for the insulation? I bet people will be interested when you take it to pick up a pizza!
ReplyDeleteIf a project is useful & pretty & uses up scraps, that's a win-win-win!!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great idea! I like the pattern you chose as well as the colors of the fabrics.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! Very pretty colors, you definitely won't loose the box in the car with that bold orange and blue.
ReplyDeleteHi Sally, what a great idea. I hope that it keeps the pizza warm for a while longer :-) Thanks so much for linking up to I Quilted This!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute idea. In the winter, it’s hard to keep the hot things hot on the drive home. I never thought to make my own pizza takeout cozie. Nice!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to make an insulation cover for pizza. An excellent choice of contrasting colors for PQ 17.5. Just read the prompt for 17.6. Something you can hold in your hand. The pizza insulator could do double duty.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool idea -- Pie carrier 2.0!! Great use of color, reflects the "pow" inside of a nice hot pizza. Yes, you WILL get requests!!
ReplyDeleteWhat an excellent idea! And essential research, getting a pizza to test the size. Beautiful result, and i bet you'll become a legend at the pizza place!
