My potted tomatoes are ridiculously happy. The others are doing pretty
well, too. I'm not having so much luck with the kale and carrots, but
the sage and basil are growing gangbusters, along with some scallions and the
mystery melon/cucumber/squash.
Speaking of squash - my candy roasters continue to grow. I believe two
of them are flowering. Yay!
I now have an overhead light in my office. I did a serious happy dance
once this was installed (yay Rob!). The floor lamp's light was too
narrow and directional. This has made such a difference when cutting
fabric in the evening.
More butterflies this week. The orange flowers attracted three different
kinds of butterflies at once. There's a black one just below left
center, the yellow one I saw last week to the far right of the black one, and
an orange one just above the yellow one. (I haven't researched what kind
of butterflies they are yet, so no names.)
Mushrooms! The ones on this stump are between the size of saucers and
salad plates. I think they're pretty.
This pair of shiny red ones catch my eye every time I come home from running
errands. They look even shinier in person.
Then there's these red and white plants. I'm guessing they're fungus,
but I can't tell. They're tiny! Like rows of little pins.
I pulled apart and replanted
my terrarium
this week. I love the new look! It's been happy so far and I hope
it survives the winter.
The wavy quilt progresses! I'm hoping to sandwich it soon. I have binding ideas, but no
idea how I'm going to quilt it. I'm kind of ahead of myself on that one.
Also attempted adding bias tape to the dress. I'm not happy with this particular
placement, but I like the overall effect. I need to stop playing with the waves and get back to the swirls....
Goodness - it was one year ago today that we moved. What a year! I am so happy to be here (even with the pandemic and the unemployment). It was a hell of a move but I think we've settled in quite nicely. Yay for the things that have gone right!
What a cool week (for being so hot)! I bet there's more cool stuff over at Not Afraid of Color's
I Like Thursday.
How strange are those mushrooms on the tree and oh yes, the orange and brown butterfly is beautiful. Loving the embellishment on your dress.
ReplyDeleteLove your dress and love seeing photos from your garden! I have a neighbor that is finding Kale challenging too. Stay well and stay safe!
ReplyDeleteHi Sally! Your tomatoes look fabulously happy. The orange flowers and butterflies are just beautiful. And your wave quilt also looks fabulous. Happy Thursday to you! ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeleteThe wavy quilt is fantastic! I love the motion and color in the blocks! And your butterflies are so pretty! We've had quite a few this year and bees which makes me happy, but I haven't gotten any good pictures. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThe photo of the orange flowers with three different butterflies is just amazing, Sally! That must be the perfect flower to have for attracting butterflies. Lots of interesting fungi there, too! I love the black sashing for your wavy blocks! Happy one year anniversary in your house!
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous photos of the butterfly and red fungi! Lots of neat things outside to see. Our plants are loving the hot weather as long as we have a few showers pop up now and then...like yesterday. Take care and enjoy your day.
ReplyDeleteAs we get older (!), lighting is so critical. Sometimes I look back at the cross-stitch I have done in dim light and I have to pull out half of it!!! How wonderful to have the promise of fresh vegetables later in the summer - nothing like a warm tomato right off the vine. Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeletehappy house anniversary!!! Look at you with the tiny waist... (I'm kind of jelly) and the hairsticks... I think I might try to paint that butterfly from your image... challenging.... the mushrooms are so cool too... a pin cushion of shrooms.
ReplyDeleteSo many great likes. Gorgeous butterflies, and your plants look awesome. LOL we have a couple of volunteer plants growing in the pile of pig poop out in the field. We are taking bets....squash, or pumpkin. :D
ReplyDeleteLove those butterflies! They're so pretty. It's amazing the difference lighting makes. I'm glad you can see better in the evening. Your terrarium looks so great! I've always wanted one. Maybe someday! I love the bias tape too! It really adds to the dress. I can't believe it's been a year that you moved. Time flies!
ReplyDeleteButterflies are so wonderful and I'm happy this year they've shown up much sooner than last year and seem more plentiful. As you know, I like mushrooms so thanks for sharing those photos. I've always wanted to have a terrarium-thanks for reminding me. That meandering tape is a neat embellishment. You are so creative! And Rob is so handy. A great team and yes, it does seem your new locale is working out great.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on those tomato plants! Candy roasters? I’ve never seen mushrooms like that on a tree. Very cool.
ReplyDeleteYou definitely have an interesting and fun garden. Thank you for sharing it with us.
