I Like Thursday: Treasures

Not much blogging lately.  I've been busy trying to catch up on all the gardening I put off in March and April.  Then this stupid shoulder has wiped me out.  But there's progress!  And some fun stuff - so I've pulled together an entry for LeeAnna's I Like Thursday.

First up - last week I saw a deer very cautiously step out of the woods into the side yard.  I suspected she was being extra cautious because she had a fawn.  I was right!  Can you see it in that photo?  Rob and I were amazed at how TINY it was.  And it was so wobbly and unsure of itself, we figured it had to be newborn.  

We saw both of them a few days ago (I see Mama haunting the edges of the yard almost every day).  Baby has grown a lot already!

I made a trip to Peterborough for a contra dance (funnily enough, there's a contra dance named "Trip to Peterborough").  The dance didn't start until 5:30pm, so I arrived early to poke around town.  I hit a few shops.  Was mesmerized watching a thread of bubbles swirl its way down the Contoocook river.  Also bought a cute set of little bowls that I did not need but absolutely had to have.  Fun!

(And the dance was a blast, of course.)

We continue to wade though boxes of old family slides.  This one came up and both my sister and I yelled: Bloody Murder!  Ever heard of such a game?  It's basically tag in the dark.  One person is it and hides in the back yard.  Then all the rest of the kids race around the house in a pack.  Anyone that gets tagged has to remain in the back yard to help tag the next round of kids.  You had to reach the front steps in order to be "safe".  Last man standing wins.  We had so much fun.

My dad loved those action shots!  I love this one of me about to belly flop in to a pile of leaves.  I swear all we did all fall was rake leaves (well, maybe not... but it seemed that way!).  Hmm... could be because we kept jumping into the piles and needed to re-rake them?  If so, totally worth it.

Another fun neighborhood thing we'd do is host a cookie party.  Pile of sugar cookies, bowls of colored frosting and containers of colored sugar (and those awful little silver balls that would absolutely crack your teeth).  Everyone had a different agenda - some went for artistry, others for the most frosting or maybe to finish the most cookies.  

Still so many photos to go through, but they've brought back some great memories.

There is some progress on the quilt.  Yay!  I really need a few rainy days so I can focus on it.  I have the kaleidoscope pieces all cut and I think I have a game plan on how to sew all the blocks together without mixing up the kaleidoscope pieces.  I need to get this off the wall!

PT has finally started to get results - shoulder doesn't hurt quite as much and I'm getting some range of motion back.  I know dancing last weekend was far more comfortable than it has been. 

The garden is mostly under control; at least weeding is no longer measured by the wheelbarrow.  A few annuals wintered over (cosmos, poppies) and I've been planting my seedlings. 

What I didn't realize when I was taking photos was that Mama deer was watching me from the trees.  I only discovered when I moved suddenly and she ran away.  Oops.  But I caught her in the photo.

 

I cut a few irises - when the sunlight comes through it reminds me of stained glass.   I managed to pull the kayak out for a test run (but need to work on that shoulder some more before I go out again.
