Another I Like post full of throwbacks. I hope you don't mind.
My mother, sister and I continue to sort through boxes of slides this summer
in the hopes of keeping the best ones and making digital copies (and
documenting when/where/who). It's been a fun trip down memory lane, with
a bunch of OMG-remember-this? plus a few
who-the-heck-are-these-people?
It's so great to see Dad beaming. I remember him as a happy guy. I have so many cousins from both sides of the family - it's fun to see them so young. And me with that afro? I cried when I got that perm because it was so tight - but it makes me laugh, now.
Lots of wedding photos from over the years. This pair has such a fun story. I don't recall if it was because there was something wrong with the buttons on the sleeves or if there wasn't enough time to finish the alterations. Regardless, my mother stitched my aunt into her wedding dress. At the end of the wedding reception the groom was formally presented with a pair of scissors so he could cut his bride out of her dress. I love the look on everyone's face in this picture.
The Target Ship of Cape Cod Bay. The sand flats seemed to go on forever; low tide was really low. As a kid I thought the Target Ship would always be there. Then in just a few years it broke in half, then sank completely.
Ice cream! My mom and aunts cleaning off the dashers after churning ice cream. I remember jostling with my cousins to clean those dashers before it ended up melting and dripping on the ground. Currently I'm the only one uncouth enthusiastic enough to clean off the dashers - my cousin's kids aren't quite old enough to dive right in. Give them another year or two....

Oh my gosh, my mother gave me a terrible perm when I was a kid too!
ReplyDeleteIt's so fun to look at old pictures. My hair curls up all on it's own so I never needed to get a perm. Love the scissors given to the groom!
ReplyDeleteI love old photos, and these are so fun, Sally! The hairstyles make me smile. And cleaning off the dashers from the ice cream churn - yes! My mom has lots of photograph albums and they are such a gift. Because she has such terrible dementia, so can't remember anything, looking at the photos and talking about what's going on in them is a pleasant thing to do when I visit her.
ReplyDeleteI remember when the afro perm was the 'thing'.......not that I ever succumbed. =) Going down memory lane with old photos is always a fun project.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful post, Sally. I for one love seeing old photos like this. I think that is you with your smiling dad. What a keepsake! And what a marvelous family you have there. It's wonderful that you are recording this here on the blog too. Take Care, J
