Binding

When I first started writing this post about a week ago, all I had was this big roll of binding.  Therefore the title was "Binding" as a noun.

Since then I've fixed a few bad spots of quilting, finished burying threads and trimmed the edges.  I got a chance to attach the binding.  I've now moved on to "Binding" as a verb.

Ahh, I do love binding a quilt.

Oh, that nice clean edge.  Plus I get to admire the quilting and the piecing work I did as I hand stitch the binding to the back of the quilt.  Alas, I found another little bit of quilting that needs to be fixed.  I'm hoping that will be the end of it.

Once the binding is complete, I'll give the quilt a close inspection, front and back, then create and sew on a label.  After that, I need a good calm sunny day to haul it down to the UMass Amherst campus, where there is a cement wall big enough to hang for photos.  Lastly, I've had a number of friends beg to see it completed in person, so it needs to make some rounds before I send it to its recipient.

I can actually see the finish line!

  1. Yes indeedy, as you skip around the edges with the binding you can indeed look and admire your amazing quilting. I'm going to rock the boat here....binding is my least favourite part of making a quilt. =)

  2. Binding......a gal at guild gave me a very large roll of 2.5 inch fabric. It's a light purple flower print. I've not had anything to match it to yet, but I need to make the entire roll into binding for the future.

  3. I love the binding step, too, for all those same reasons! There's such a thrill in seeing your hard work all finished up. It's a gorgeous quilt, Sally!

  4. What stunning quilt. I do love stars and a black and white palette. You do both beautifully. Hopefully, you got your photo shoot in. As another MA resident, but coastal the weather report is for rain starting on Tuesday. Not sure if extends to western MA or not.

  5. Sally this is one gorgeous quilt. I’m sure you’ve got friends needing to see it up close before you can send it to its recipient. I’ve enjoyed the journey of this quilt as you linked with To Do Tuesday.

  6. Hi Sally, that's a really great quilt and I'm so glad that the end is near. It's so fun to share the finished quilt in person with friends. Thanks for linking up to FM Mavericks!
