I have some real odds-and-ends to share with LeeAnna and friends for I Like Thursday. I never know what will catch my eye or tickle my fancy.
I drove by this pumpkin patch a couple of weeks ago and was struck by the color, but didn't get a chance to photograph it. I was so excited last week when I saw the pumpkins were still there, plus a rainbow in the blue sky!
We've had some crazy windy days last week and most of the trees are bare.
I was thrilled to attend the Fall Ball a few weeks ago. (That the crazy 12 hour contra dance.) I wasn't sure I'd be recovered from that tick bite by the time it rolled around. I was pleased my stamina outlasted my feet and my shoulders.
Fantastic music, excellent calling. I wish I could have stayed longer (I limited myself to only half the dance).
Dough hooks on a hand mixer seem silly - how can it be strong enough to knead dough? However, I found an alternative use: a dough hook is great for mixing the oil into a new jar of peanut butter. None of the oil slops over the edge. Plus it takes longer to re-separate.
This was the chonky chuck that decimated my garden. He may have frustrated me, but he is a handsome devil. All bulked up for winter!
The siding guys came and fixed the edges on the garage (some large local
wildlife ripped off one of one of them and another was badly cracked).
Yay! We couldn't find a match to the siding, but the plain white turned
out to be a good choice.
I painted the big column on the porch this summer and then realized how badly the steps and the side of the deck needed it too. We had one warm day last weekend, so I got that done, too. Looks so clean. Too bad it won't stay that way... it already has scuff marks!
The quilt is bound! See that tiny empty spool next to it? I had about four inches of black thread remaining on my needle when I finished stitching it. I need to think of a good name for the quilt and make a label. What would you name it?
I am amazed this quilt took so long. Reviewing the hours I put into it, it should have been completed by July at the very latest. It's been quite the year of delays and setbacks.
I marked a few spots of quilting that may need to be restitched. Beyond that, it's done. Soon it will be time to dig through my backlog of projects!

That is a gorgeous quilt!
ReplyDeleteThat pumpkin patch is a fun sight! I hope those pumpkins went home with kids to be carved. So glad you were able to go to the dance! We got a new hand mixer earlier this and it has a dough hook, too. My son uses it when making bread and it works pretty nicely. I also used it to mix the oil into my peanut butter - who knew it would be helpful for that?! :) Hooray for a finish on the quilt! Weren't you calling it Midnight Garden? I always liked that.
ReplyDeleteI love the white trim on your house. So many pumpkins! I hope they went home to someone and didn't just stay there. Your quilt came out great! I have no idea what to call it. I've never used that dough hook.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great tip about mixing the peanut butter, thanks! I use my stick blender to blend separated tahini, but my hand-mixer with one of the "dough hooks" (I've always wondered if those little hooks would *really* mix dough!) would be much easier to clean. I will definitely try your method for peanut butter and tahini!
ReplyDeleteKaleidoscope, the quilt reminds me of one. Beautiful work. Pumpkins are getting scarce around here. It seems once peak foliage in the mountains is over, less leaf peepers, fall winds down too soon.

ReplyDeleteGorgeous. Why did you spot the pumpkin patch? I've been enjoying visiting everyone on my blog list to catch up, as it's been too many months since I've blogged. It feels good to get back into it.
