Flora and Fauna

Rob was in the kitchen the other day and he said "bear!"  I ran out to see this gal right outside the house.  I've been told the blue tags and collar indicate a female.  She'd already knocked down and smashed the hummingbird feeder - I guess that's the end of that for the season.

When I banged on the window the bear seemed only vaguely concerned and moved off a several feet, still very curious about something she smelled (probably the sugar water).  I had been out in the yard not long before and had left only the screen door shut on the sunroom.  Eek!  Once she moved off I ran out and closed the door.  Need to remember to keep that closed, too!

More flowers!  The deer stopped eating the black eyed Susans in my garden long enough for them to start blooming.  They look beautiful.  They also stopped eating the heads off the daylilies.  I love the peach colored ones.

Then there's Voledemort - the busy little vole that has pruned most of the marigolds and harvested all my regular lilies.  He used the last ones to decorate a large lobster claw I have in the garden.  He stuffed the blossoms into each of the openings.  I have no idea why.  It looked pretty silly!

Look at this toadstool!  The color and the texture are almost too perfect to be real.  I found it along the edge of our property.  Just one.

I've had a few singleton things growing in the yard this year (no pictures of the rest).  I found a single round-headed leek flower (a very pretty magenta) and one blue paper bellflower that I've never seen bloom in the yard before.

The farmer's market has started chalking the name of the vendor in front of their booth.  A few weeks ago they added drawings with each of them - I was amused by Meadowfed Lamb with the sheep eating hay on a scooter.  Vroom!
