I Like Thursday: Some History - Ancient and Otherwise

When am I not busy??  It's time to catch up with LeeAnna's I Like Thursday with some good things that happened recently (distract you from your doomscrolling for a bit).

My mother and I met up with some friends at the Harvard Art Museum a few weeks ago.  I was impressed with the size of the Grecian wine cups.  How full did they fill them?  I guess if you're too drunk you couldn't drink out of the flat ones?  You may have to enlarge to read the quote that was on one display - but I found it rather humorous.

The Chinese artwork caught my attention, too.  At first glance I thought the box was either Mayan or Aztec - amazing that centuries and continents apart that the style is similar.  I also found the other piece was so whimsical.

This is not quite so ancient history - although it may depend on who you ask.  My mother, sister and I continue to sort through old slides and this one popped up.  I messaged one of my friends the photo - were we ever that little?!?

Recent history - Drapes of Doom made a comeback this week for the first time in six years.

And on the quilting front - I am done with the main part of the blocks.  Now I just need to add the kaleidoscope corners to finish the blocks.  Getting closer!

Rob and I walked around Roaring Brook on Monday - it was such a beautiful evening.  So much green around the falls even though the trees have just started budding in the area.

A couple of weeks ago I came across this sign while hiking around Concord with a friend.  It was hard to get a good photo (such a beautiful bright sunny day) but the poses are Dog Lunge Sly Scoop, Warrior Dog Scoop, Triangle Pose Dog Scoop, Rag Dog and Fire Hydrant Front Scoop.  Ha!

That same trip we also came across a hardware store display with some beautiful old hand tools.  This crazy looking contraption is a combination plane.  It allowed making some fancy cuts like a modern day router would today.  Pretty cool!

  4. What interesting places you visit especially in this post. Dionysos (sp?) was funny maybe unintentionally. And I love those dog scoop yoga poses. Perfect. How neat to have a photo of little you and friends. And I would love to see that Roaring Brook...love the water. Busy is good! A great post, Sally.

  5. Wow, interesting. I had a flash of the pictures you see of people laying around on their sides...how in the world would they be able to drink from these bowls laying on their sides. Glad you had a good day.
