Piecing and Pinning

The last Project Quilting challenge comes out later today - so I was able to focus on clean-up projects this week.  I have almost cleared out my backlog of Winter Stars scrap.  Whew!  I pieced together a backing for the Lone Star quilt.  Then I ripped out a few of the center star's seams and restitched to get rid of the bulge I had complained about in an earlier post.   The center points are a total mess but absolutely no one is going to notice those.  The quilt is flat enough to ease out any other ripples when I quilt it.

I started sandwiching it before I noticed a few jagged edges along the black and red Vs I had intended to address (the other missed points are more forgiving).  The frustrating thing is two of them had already been ripped and restitched.  Thankfully third time was the charm (and kept to my two-rip-and-restitch rule).  This quilt is officially sandwiched and in need of quilting inspiration.

My mother and sister were over a few weeks ago, intending to make a set of seat cushions for my sister's dining room chairs.  We dug through my stash as well as orphaned and crumb blocks.  My sister fell in love with the multi-colored crumb pieces.  I had enough crumb blocks to make three 18-inch squares.  I spent the last couple of days assembling these squares.  I scrounged enough for a fourth block by slicing some of the orphaned blocks and adding a few single-colored crumb blocks to it.  I need to quilt these, then deliver them to my mom who volunteered to make the cushions.  I'm looking forward to seeing the final product.

Remember my Mini Wonky NYB quilt that I submitted to Small Works?  It sold!  Yeah, it was kinda cool to hold that check in my hand.

Next up are some scrappy projects and a baby quilt I need to start designing.  Good stuff!

  1. Lots of fun going on in your sewing room, Sally! The Lone Star looks great! How big did that end up to be? Love the crumb blocks, too - that's a neat idea to use them for cushion covers. And congratulations on the sale, too!

  2. What an awesome post, Sally. Love that Lone Star topper and you are so right...what we notice up close and personal and fuss about won't be seen when something is finished. And I love those crumb blocks which look so bright in the blues. Big congrats on the sale, so deserving!

  5. Congrats on the sale - though I would have been surprised if it had not sold! And how nice to have a sort of group project with your sister and mom. The cushions will be wonderful.
