I Like Thursday: Gardening and Kayaking

It was a crazy hot weekend, and what did I do for two days straight?  Weed the gardens.  Nuts.  But the garden looks so much better and I planted more seeds.  Yay!

I pulled out some lily of the valley when I weeded around them.  They look great in my little vase I bought last fall.  They lasted longer than I expected - they're still pretty good today.

I planted a bunch of zinnia and marigold seeds by the driveway.  I mostly just scattered them and I was convinced none of them would sprout.  But I saw a bunch of them sprouting!

Having repaired my sister's kayak, I got to bring home my second Oru kayak.  Have kayaks, will travel!  I'm hoping to get to paddle around this summer with some friends.

The weather has been beautiful this week.  I managed to skip out at lunchtime for a quick paddle around Leverett pond.  So much blue!  Lovely puffy clouds.  It was just what I needed.  I came home calm and happy.

Looking forward to spending Saturday with some friends.

I'll finish with an interesting article about about Roe vs Wade

That's it for my likes this week.  Off to LeeAnna's to read up on other good things at I Like Thursday.

  1. How exciting zinnias are beginning to sprout. Have kayak will travel indeed. Gorgeous scenery. Excellent article on Roe v Wade. I sit here in Australia and can only shake my head in disbelief with the goings-on in America. The GOP......gosh what hypocrites. It seems to me they are only 'concerned' with a child while in the womb but when that child goes to school....well....it is open slather for an eighteen year old to legally buy assault weapons and murder that child and many of his/her peers. The GOP and the NRA...despicable. As I said, I shake my head in total disbelief.

  2. Sally - I had one kayak outing with my neighbor before we left on vacation - looking forward to warmer weather when we return, and many more paddles! Thanks for sharing the article about Roe - very insightful. Like the author, I can (kinda) wrap my head around the change, AND then other things should also change - access to affordable child care, for example, and maternity/paternity leave!

  3. That was an excellent article - thanks for sharing! I definitely think access to healthcare and contraceptives is a big one towards helping women manage unwanted pregnancies. Your kayaking photo looked like an "ahhhhh!" moment. Glad you're having a chance to get out there.

  4. who's taking care of all the unwanted babies? The men seeking to control a woman's health care issues adopting them? Yes I feel we're slipping back into a time when women had no rights...on the other hand I like your Lily of the valley vase...

  6. Hi Sally! Oh, I love the lily of the valley in the sweet vase. Ours have sprouted but are not yet ready to pick. Thanks for the link to the Roe v Wade post. I hope you enjoy your holiday weekend and get some time in that kayak! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  7. I like that you have been able to kayak again. I know you love it, and therefore it is "self-care" for you. I have never paddled a canoe or kayak, but I love being on the water or beside the water.

Thanks for the well written article from Valerie Tarico. Valid points regarding access to family planning. We will have to fight for the options Ms Tarico outlined. It's what we have to do!

  9. So great you get to kayak so often! I'm sure your zinnias and marigolds will sprout in no time! I'm so mad about Roe v. Wade. We're going backwards instead of forward. Abortions will still be around, just more dangerous.

  10. Love your lily of the valley. Someday I will learn to kayak. Isn't it fun when things sprout when you aren't expecting it?

  11. I have lots of Lilly of the Valley, problem is they become so thick they are hard to dig up and take over other plants. I had them down to a manageable level a few years ago, but see the need to do some more work on them. Looks like you had a nice day to get out on the water. I don't know if I can bring myself to read another article about Roe vs Wade. I'm soooooo angry, and fearful and ashamed of how backward things are going. Women are 2nd class citizens and it's getting worse each and everyday. What's next taking away our right to vote, to own property, to be nothing more than property of our fathers until they had us onto our husbands. I want to scream from the rooftops.
