When I last wrote, I was so excited: I had just hit stride quilting the stars on this quilt. Thread tension seemed to be behaving;
I had a plan of attack. I was seriously looking forward to a weekend of
quilting. Well, a weekend of quilting happened... only much later than I intended. A
tick bite laid me out for nearly two whole weeks. I'm still not fully
recovered - but enough to start quilting.
I wrapped all 56 stars early this week. Yay! I have a few spots I need to restitch (skipped stitches over heavy seams and empty bobbins at inconvenient times), but the rest of it went smoothly.
I usually bury them while watching TV in the evenings, so I don't really pay attention to how much time this takes. However, I've been timing everything on this quilt. So far I've spent as much time pinning and burying threads than I have actually quilting! I'm shocked.
Now on to the next stage of quilting: crosses. There will be a stage three, in which I will quilt the squares in the middle of each cross (in a different color). That will also be another 56 squares (although half-squares along the edges).
You may have noticed I've mostly been photographing the back for the quilting. The stitching shows up there more clearly than the front. That's fine - the front of the quilt is interesting all on it's own.
I've only completed a few crosses so far. It will take a few more before I get the feel for it. It seems to cover more area than the stars - I've noticed quilting it requires a bit more muscle to move the quilt around. I'm hoping that will get a little easier as I move from the center to the edges.
Fingers crossed for no interruptions for this stage. Will I be so lucky? Ha.

I am so sorry to hear about the tick bite. See this is why I'm a little obsessed with them...I have gotten the preventative medicine once when I found one on me...here the pharmacist can prescribe for this which makes it very convenient. Anyway, thankfully that is behind you. Well, all 56 stars have some beautiful quilt lines! A big job, Sally. And yes, the tiny chores can be very time consuming when it comes to quilting I find too. Take Care, J
