I cut my first piece of the shiny threads. So many applique patterns to choose from. I decided to go with hearts. I'm thinking about how I want to stitch it together, what kind of overall pattern to do, how big to make it. The weather was overcast when I snapped the pictures, so they don't look like much. In sunlight it really sparkles.
I pulled a bunch of fabric I thought would go with it. I was surprised with what didn't work - some blacks, greens, light blues, white and orange. I'm down to a bright dark blue, two deep reds and a silvery grey. Had to laugh - they look like New England Patriots colors. The blue and red pop; the grey was calmer. It may not look like much in the photo, but it's pretty in daylight.
This is certainly a typical seat-of-my-pants project. Some of my favorite quilts start with a small, vague idea and go from there. I've not done much applique - none of it on a quilt. So that's all new territory. Not sure if I want to sew it by machine or by hand with a blanket stitch. This is also more artsy than my usual quilt. I'm trying a few different style of hearts, wondering if I
should stick solely with the shiny threads or if I should add some other
color. I'm considering other embellishments as well.
Interesting project. Can't wait to see where it goes next.
You are having so much fun! Looks exciting so far :)
