Lots of orange, red and green this week. It started out with our misadventure last Wednesday. We returned home to a dark house. Yay for a generator! Water and internet are a good thing (even if I curled up most of the evening with a book by the battery-powered lamp).
This pretty picture was taken the next morning. The brush/leaves in the foreground is a tree branch that took out the power line. Great color! But I'd have been happier if it stayed on the tree.
While checking out the damage, I also spied a bunch of turkeys enjoying
the sunshine. They're nothing but little black dots on that green
field. But the blue sky and the trees starting to turn and all that
green was very pretty.
I call this guy Mr Moo. He lives up the hill where we turn around on our walks. He was enjoying the warmer weather - wonder where he hunkered down for that storm?
We made tomato sauce. Yum. The farmer's market finally had a box of seconds. I mixed that together with about 8 pounds of my own tomatoes. There are still a bunch of tomatoes on my vines that I hope will ripen soon. I'll probably cheat and simply halve and freeze them.
I am pleased with the two inches of rain that the leftovers of hurricane Delta dumped on us. Currently we'll have a couple of days of warm weather before it gets cold and wet again. Squeezed in kayaking with my sister on Wednesday evening, and I hope to get out again today.
I hosted a virtual tea on Sunday. I'm still learning how to juggle hosting on Zoom - I don't always see when someone is in the waiting area (oops! Sorry!). I wish people could log in automatically. It had been ages since our last real tea - way before the pandemic. So it was good to see and hear from folk, even if it was simply online.
Another busy week! Maybe next week will be a little more relaxed? Ha!
Thanks for stopping by - be sure to check out bits of happiness going on at Not Afraid of Color's I Like Thursday.
Hi Sally! Your tomato sauce looks lovely - nice and thick and red. Mr Moo cracks me up. He is wondering what you two are doing and whether or not you have a snack for him?! Two inches of rain - what a great time to get a significant amount right before it really cools down. That's so great for the plants and trees. Happy Thursday to you. ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeleteSo many great likes. I think your trees look like ours in terms of the colours. We haven't had any rain or winds so everything is staying put. For now. So happy you got out kayaking again. We are having our restriction heightened, sadly. I love love love those wavy strings!
ReplyDeleteSad about the downed trees and power lines. A generator would be a great help. I like your wavy strings too, and don’t notice the upside down hearts! Probably more evident in person! Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteSorry about the power loss but those trees are beautiful. Congrats on storing those tomatoes and getting out to kayak. Pretty quilted blocks.
ReplyDeleteMr. Moo looks like a charming character. Lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteWe also lost power during that big storm. We were out for 11 hours. Luckily my husband has a camping frame of mind, and had many battery operated lanterns for us to use instead of candles. My family used to use big thick, hard to knock over candles in front of mirrors to add light to a room, when I was a kid. Much different & safer now. I enjoyed your tomato sauce, Mr. Moo & loved how your quilt is working out.
ReplyDeleteYour quilting looks so pretty and detailed - impressive! Yum on the tomato sauce, too! I love the views around your place. Those New England fall leaves can't be beat!
ReplyDeleteautomatic must be a setting as Ive done both, had to wait once. Homemade canned tomato sauce, wow. Love the cow, thank you for that! thank you for keeping the good vibes going Sally...
ReplyDeleteYay for home made tomato sauce. I found a jar a couple of weeks ago when I made stuffed peppers. Lovely pictures.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, but naughty branch!! At least, you guys have a generator.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful trees! I've been canning diced tomatoes for soups for months now. What is the preservative in your sauce? Lemon?
ReplyDeleteThe braid quilt is beautiful and must have hundreds of stitches! WOW! Love the colorful trees too. Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteLove your Braid Quilt. You have plenty of tomato sauce! That should last you awhile. The colors in your pictures are so pretty! We got some much needed rain too. I never know what to wear. Some days are warm, then cool. It keeps changing too much!
