Green Sandwich and Inkblots

I finished the top of the sage quilt.  I love the little dark green squares.

I had picked a taupe color for the backing that I thought would work.  Once I put it near the front of the quilt I hated it.  I found a few more fabrics in my stash that I liked better but none had enough yardage.  Okay - new plan.

As it turns out I had way more green for the front than I needed, so used the strips and leftover chunks for the back.I had intended the backing to be mostly one solid piece of fabric.  Oh, well - this works!

I've set up the sewing machine to quilt and hope to get some quilting done this week.

Meanwhile, I'm debating about how much white space to add into the Inkblots quilt.  This latest picture is with the pieces placed closer together.  I'm hoping to buy fabric next weekend. Maybe white?  Maybe a color?  Definitely something solid or low volume.

  1. The green quilt came out so great! I love the pieced backing. That's such a great use of your leftover pieces. The inkblot fabric is gorgeous! I would definitely pick a light color for contrast. I would probably choose a solid but you may find something else that works well with that fabric.

  2. How about trying that taupe you had and didn't like for the inkblot top? It might look good with a zinger of bright magenta, too. Love the inkblots!

  3. That pieced backing is great! I love that we can have a traditional looking quilt on the back and modern look on the back. I agree with Kathy... how about the taupe that was not used in the green quilt? Or a bold solid like yellow or red... the magenta could be interesting too! Thanks for sharing in Sew & Tell.

  4. Your green quilt top is gorgeous, Sally - so cool and refreshing! I love the pieced backing, such a great way to use up leftovers from the quilt top. It just takes longer to get done than using a solid piece!
