Am I a bad daughter? I had my mother come to me on Mother's Day.
But it gave us the opportunity to walk the loop around my neighborhood.
When we got near Duck World we had the flock of chickens, ducks and geese
flock to us like we were handing out treats. There were several goslings
and ducklings that came to check us out. The two chickens with the crazy
hairdos greeted us as well. They are a goofy bunch!
I did fix her sewing machine while she was here... so I can't be all that bad.
Once again Rob took the opportunity to observe and document the woodchuck eating my garden rather than shooing him away. That's what I get for gallivanting in Boston for a day. At least the stinker focused on the aster, which is going to get lopped in another couple of weeks anyway.
A childhood friend of mine was coming to Boston for business. I took a
day off to meet up with her. It's been years since I last saw her so we
spent the day catching up. It was a beautiful day and we walked all over
(my fitbit registered 12 miles or so). On a whim we went into the State
House to see a photo exhibit of Quabbin Reservoir. Not knowing
where it was in the State House led us on a merry adventure, which
included viewing the Holy Mackerel in the Senate Chamber. We had a lot of
fun getting lost in there.
It took me a while to reorient myself to the Boston subway. On the surface it all looked the same, but so much more is automated. Platforms would tell you which train was coming in next and how long before it arrived. My phone gave me so much detailed information I was overwhelmed. I felt like a country bumpkin.
So worth it. We had a fantastic time. I was grateful to get in my car to drive home. My feet were so sore from all that walking!
Supernova is on the wall! I had a wooden quilt hanger I had intended to hang this with but it didn't seem to clamp well, required new screws to be put in the wall and was generally a nuisance. Rob suggested our go-to for all picture hanging issues: picture molding. So $40 later, along with several hours of sanding, painting, measuring, sawing and wrestling the 13 foot piece of wood near the ceiling so we could nail it in place, I could hang my quilt. But given the number of holes we had already nailed in this wall for various-sized quilts this seems like a good long-term solution (opposed to adding two new nails to the wall).
My time has also been sucked up by our latest guinea pig fosters from
Dakin Humane. They're still pretty shy, but let me reach in (sometimes) to
pat them. Celery Salt loves to hide in the tunnel and Peppercorn is
usually found on the lower level when she isn't running laps around the
cage.
