I'm frugal, and it's a pleasure eking out something useful from the last bit of scrap that would otherwise be tossed out. I particularly like the black and blue shoe bag.
I'm really enjoying The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith (a pseudonym for J.K. Rowling). I heard of it when it had first came out, but ignored it because of the hype and I'm not hugely into murder mysteries. Recently it was recommended to me by an acquaintance, so I figured I'd give it a try. Was chuckling before the end of the first chapter - always a good sign. Now 100 pages into it and very much enjoying it. Bonus - there's more books in the series (my reading list is ever-growing)!
I like that I was able to help out at the Pig-a-Palooza event on Sunday. I wish I had gotten a chance to see more of the pigs. I should have taken the offer for a break from clipping nails to take a look. But I really enjoy talking to the guinea pig caretakers and instructing the newbies how to clip nails. (And if you want more cute pigs, check out the photo booth album.)
Speaking of snow(flakes)... I don't know if you're familiar with Agile Software Development. It's a method for developing software (or anything, really) that's quite popular (or unpopular, depending who you are). Anyway - there's a term called focus factor: what percentage of your time that can be devoted to the tasks on hand. In a recent planning session I stated that I've had so many interruptions, I'm having a hard time concentrating on my work. It was making me flaky; I needed to up my flake factor. Everyone laughed, and asked if we could change the term focus factor to flake factor. Sounds good to me! (Although, less flakiness would be nice, too.)
I like the blogging community! Put out some questions on yesterday's post and received a bunch of feedback already. You're great people! (And thanks.)
Hi Sally,
ReplyDeleteHow sweet, that picture of you trimming the pigs nails and chatting with the young owner. That really makes me smile! Thanks for the book title - I'll go look it up right away. And I agree with your like of the blogging community - they really do rock, don't they?! ~smile~ Roseanne
Oh, I'm happy to hear you are enjoying that book. I've been meaning to give J.K.'s adult books a try so will start with this one. It is at our library.
ReplyDeleteRosanne is right-that photo of you nail clipping(our least favourite activity around here!) is so nice.
Those are some pretty shoe bags! I hadn't thought of using up my scraps for that. My daughter would like that for their trips to the beach hmmm...need to add that to my list. How generous to share your time nail clipping for others. Have a great day! mary in Az
ReplyDeleteThe birds in our yard are always really active on a wet or snowy day - they definitely enjoy that weather, don't they! Your shoe bags look like a great idea. I hadn't heard of the book you're reading, will have to look it up. I did read Rowling's book, The Casual Vacancy, and found it very dark and depressing. The murder mystery series is usually my favorite though!
ReplyDeleteI like your likes and your candy... BIG THANK YOU! I've been overwhelmed with housing issues but appreciate you and your efforts and your friendship. Little pig nails... gonna check out the book...
