I Like Thursday: Feeling Accomplished

It's been a busy week.

Making progress on my quilts.  Creekbed is sandwiched and I know how I want to quilt it.  That's on hold as I get the braid quilt ready for quilting, too.  The borders went on without too much fuss (although I needed to tack on 3" to be long enough).  I stitched together the backing - of course discovering it wasn't quite as long as I hoped.  I'm now I'm piecing together a stripe to go across the middle.  I plan to have that assembled, then sandwich and baste the quilt before the sunroom gets too chilly to work in.  Then I can focus on quilting both quilts.

Take a look at this radish.  It's the size of a beet!  I don't get to the farmer's market as often as I'd like, but I was happy with the stuff I got last week.  The radishes have been crisp and peppery.

My tomatoes are still coming in - I've found a few big ones that had been hiding in the foliage.  I can't wait for them to ripen!

I've been dealing with diet restrictions over the last several weeks.  It's been tough to avoid fruits and veggies in the middle of harvest time.  I'm starting to feel better and celebrated by making some apple crisp (that got a little over-crisped on top).  Oh, delicious!

I made my annual batch of candy corn bark.  I didn't have quite enough white chocolate on hand, so I topped it with some milk chocolate.  Sugar coma, here we come!  (The milk chocolate may not be as pretty as all white chocolate, but it's tasty.  I may need to keep this modification.)

The job search has gotten some traction:  two screening calls, two second-round interviews in the last two weeks.  Yay! and thank you to everyone who has helped me this far.

Check out this fun 80s music mashup.  We had fun trying to pick out bands and songs.

That's my little smattering of happy things.  There's more over at Not Afraid of Color's I Like Thursday.

  3. It's a great feeling to have a quilt at that stage, end in sight. Apple crisp is one of my favourites and I prefer milk chocolate to white so that would def. be a modification for me. Good luck now with the job search.

  4. I had to enlarge the photo of the Candy Corn bark. Candy corn, pretzels and chocolate! What’s not to like. I discovered candy corn and dry roasted peanuts in equal amounts tossed together! Yum! Salty sweet goodness!

  5. Hi Sally! Good luck with the next rounds of the job search. It's tough in these times but your skills will definitely prevail and surge you to the top. Your Halloween candy corn bark looks yummy! And that radish! Holy moly. I haven't had radishes since my dad passed - we used to eat them together weekly. Yum. ~smile~ Roseanne

  6. Good for you, getting two quilts ready for quilting at the same time! That is always a slow process for me. Congratulations on the job search progress, too. Fingers crossed for you! And candy corn bark - yum! I bet that's hard to leave alone. 😉

  10. Hope you get a job soon. It's not easy. Your baking looks delicious. I usually piece my quilt backings and they're a pain sometimes! I re-measure a lot and still have known to screw up!

  11. Yay for job interviews. Your candy bark looks yummy. I am with you and Rosemary piecing backings seems to always test my quilt math skills to the max and most times I am wrong.

  13. Your apple crisp looks great! Hope you find a job you love soon! That quilt looks like it is going to be amazing! I am impressed with your radish! Our tomatoes stopped producing a few weeks ago, mostly due to the lack of rain but we had a good harvest before then. Take care!
