I Like Thursday: What's That White Stuff?

Since so many of the I Like Thursday crowd have been showing off their early-season snow, I decided to get in on the action.  Seriously, I'd have been fine not keeping up with the Joneses.  I'm not ready for winter.

It's pretty, though.  The sun came out on Saturday.  Blue sky and sun-on-snow is a wonderful combination!  The grey and gloomy photo below is from Friday morning just after the snow stopped.  Sticky, heavy stuff.  Good thing I brought in the last of the green tomatoes on Thursday - this snow and cold killed off everything.

Last year we had absolutely no interest in the bird feeders.  It killed me because I listened to the goldfinches twitter in the trees all winter.  This year?  The goldfinches and pine siskins have been out in force.  Absolute chow-hounds.

And now it's back into the 60s.  I may get out kayaking again!

Very little (watchable) stuff on TV.  So many of my favorite shows are on hiatus.  We've been pulling old shows from the library.  We're in the middle of watching Campion.  I love Peter Davidson in this roll.  It's too bad there's only two seasons.

I've been reading, too.  I just finished The Starless Sea.  Did you read The Night Circus?  This book had the same surreal, dream-like feel.  I already returned it to the library, but I may have to check it out to re-read.  There's so many details, I'm sure I'd pick up more tidbits the second time around.

I finished Creekbed!  And I've started quilting the braid quilt.  I taped all my doodles on the wall; it's a little overwhelming.  Improv quilting looks so amazing and pretty but it's not easy.  At least not for me!  I have to stop and think what and where I'm going next.  It does NOT flow.  I'm hoping it will get better as I go along.  So far I can only work on it 30-40 minutes at a time.

I saved my biggest like for last (and it's huge!):  I got a job offer.  I accepted.  I spent yesterday filling out paperwork and contacting people.  I'd been hoping the last two months that I'd land here - I'll be working with two ex-coworkers.  Exciting!  I'm going to miss all my free time but so entirely grateful to have a job again.

That's it for me.  A small slice of cheer and normality in an otherwise crazy week.  Check out I Like Thursday at Not Afraid of Color for some more (hopefully) uplifting content to break up the doomscrolling.

  1. I agree about the snow! It’s beautiful,but I’m not ready!
I had to go back and check out Creekbed! It’s an amazing piece of art! Really lovely,
Congratulations on the new job! It good to be happy in your job!

  2. sad to say we saw that the east will have a snowy winter and we will have a dry one. WE need the snow to put out fires and provide water for all next year!! We enjoyed campion but don't know if we saw all of them.Yea on the job... from home I hope? They are pestering dh to go into the office where the infection rate is escalating again.

  3. Congrats on the job! Sounds like you will fit in perfectly.
We have had one brief brush of snow and are presently enjoying lovely temps but know winter is gathering around us soo...
So happy the birds have found the feeders; I never tire of the fun of watching them.
I've made note of Campion as it is one I'm sure we would enjoy. Thanks for the link.

  4. Congratulations on your new job! This is great news. I would hold onto fall as well trying to delay thinking about winter. Though, of course, winter does look mighty pretty there.

  5. Hi Sally! Chowhound birdies - I love it! And the snow looks pretty but y'all can keep it. I am in NO RUSH to join that party. Big huge CONGRATS about the new job. I knew you would be snapped up and two months really isn't all that long. {{Hugs}} and enjoy and stay safe. ~smile~ Roseanne

  6. Congratulations on your new job - sounds like a good one! I am not ready for winter either, but since we don't have any control over when it snows, at least we can like the day after when there is sun and blue sky again! How wonderful to be seeing lots of birds - especially goldfinches - they're so pretty!

  7. Congrats on the new job! We had snow last week too but it didn't last too long. Fine with me! I've wanted to read those 2 books but wasn't sure if I'd like them. I'm not crazy about fantasy.

  8. Congrats on the new job. We had a spit of flakes, but have been in the 70's the past few days. I need to bring in my hummingbird feeder and fill my bird feeders. I am not good at improv either.

  9. I too agree, it was too early for snow. We got 5 inches & we're on the coast, so it's very unusual. Congratulations on the new job. I'm officially retired. Too early yes, but with my limitations, it's okay. My crafts will keep me busy.

  10. Congrats on the job. I love the snow! The one we got a couple weeks ago was a little early but I'm ready now!

I enjoy reading your comments and I strive to reply by email (if you're not set to no-reply).
