Project Quilting 14.2: Wavy Pink Pillow

I finished my second challenge of Project Quilting with plenty of time to spare... but then had trouble finding good light to photograph it for my post!  This week's theme was Pink Tint:  the project need to be inspired by the color pink.  I dug through my stash and found more pink than I thought I had.  The first thing that popped into my head was wavy strings.  I kept coming back to that every time I tried to think of some other pattern to do.  I swung between a quilted post card or another pillow case (since I still have all of last season's mug rugs).  My fabric drawer is rather packed, so I picked the pillow to use up more fabric.

Initially I thought I'd contrast the pink with some black.  I though all pink would be overwhelming.  But as the piecing progressed I decided to make the entire pillow pink.  I added in a bit of red, just for some interest (the kitties are pink!).

I love the wavy strings.  The quilting is simple - some stitch in the ditch and a few additional wavy lines.  I found a spool of shiny pink rayon thread, so I split the quilting between that and some dark pink.  The top crept (creeped?) in spots as I quilted it, so there's a few ripply bits.  The perfectionist in me wanted to rip it out and try again.  I suspected that would be a losing battle.  Maybe it would have behaved if I starched it or spray basted?  Well, a little puckering/rippling adds character, right?  Sure.

It's almost a shame that the back will get hidden by the pillow - I like how that looks! (And no puckering there.)

Then what to bind it in?!  I waffled between black, pink or red.  I really liked the red, but it blended in too much with the left side wave (my other red fabrics were too orange for this quilt).  I decided the pink made a soft pipping around the edge that doesn't draw away from the rest of the pillow.  I made an envelope back with the red and pink kitties.

Not bad!  The color isn't as overwhelming as I thought it would be, either.
