After losing a chunk of my weekend to being on-call (whoa - that was an adventure!), I was able to play on Monday. I sewed.
Last month I mucked about with the little kites and rather liked this layout. This week I pulled out some black scrap (which oddly enough was used in another kite quilt) and decided there was just enough scrap to frame these little kites. Oh, I love how this looks. It's made from 12 blocks, each 3⅛" raw. They had partial seams with that tiny ¾" middle square. Right now it measures roughly 8x11". I may trim it down, so the out blocks won't be full squares, to cut down on the black border. We'll see what it looks like after I quilt it.
I also worked on the Project Quilting 12.4 challenge. It calls for a snails trail block, in which I then added kitties. I had a lot of little grey scraps, so I decided grey cats. The pink fabric said, "pick me!" Then for whatever reason, I decided to set it on point. What do you think? It would make a great pillow, but I don't think I'd finis that on time. So I'm thinking a table topper. It should finish at roughly 18" square.
Now... how to quilt these?
Interesting design
ReplyDeleteThose cats are fabulous. Such a fabulous take on a snails trail block. Those kites really pop on that fantastic black fabric. How wonderful to stitch your Monday away.
ReplyDeleteI love the kites on the black, too! And the kitties are a really neat take on the Snail's Trail block - great idea, Sally!
ReplyDeleteI love your kites too. And your kitties are fantastic! I love the way the snails trail blocks make them looks like entwined tails.
ReplyDeleteCute kitties! I do like them set on point.
ReplyDeleteThose kitties, and the kites, too, are adorbs! I think the kitties need spiral quilting. Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteVery nice snail's trail kitties. My thought is to quilt it the same way, with swirls. Have fun.
