Saturday afternoon was the time to hang out in the yard (quick! before it pours rain again!). The buns and the deer were out together.

There were good deer (eating the wildflowers) and bad deer (in my
garden!). Look at her acting all innocent. Oh? I shouldn't
be in this garden here? Are you sure?
I love peach season. Unfortunately, my last batch was woody. However, I remembered to slice and microwave the peach and voila! it's quite edible.
I've been looking at the rules to The Big E to submit a few of my
quilts. I had to get permission for one of them for the pattern I
used. They also have a formula to calculate replacement value that
includes hours worked. I've always mean to track the hours I put in on a
quilt, but fail to do so. Golden Orrery? I tried two
different ways of coming up with hours and both come out to be about 250
hours. I suspect that's still way less than the actual time spent.
And my other two submissions? They were scrappy projects that I hacked
around with during some free time. Again, hard to pin time on it.
Do you have any idea how long you spend working on a quilt?
I found these cards by Art Bug Illustrations at the Greenfield farmer's market a couple of weeks ago (then lost them in my car for a week or so). Aren't they adorable?

I think I finally have the right colors in the right order to start again on Icy Waters. I was not happy with my first three blocks, and I think I worked out the problem. I'll be making another stab at it soon.
This one I plan to sell on Etsy. I had just made four shopping bags for ourselves back in May; we don't need any more right now!
The last of the guinea pigs have been adopted. There's no hay on the
floor for the first time since April. They were fun while they lasted!
Have you seen Professor T? It's starting to show on some PBS stations. Ben Miller is perfect in this role and I hope there's more seasons to come.

ReplyDeletegreat fabric pull and I worked on a piece that didn't come out right yesterday. The fabrics I pulled all blend way too much to notice the blue blossoms I wanted to showcase. Today it's about problem solving.
Did you hear about the work being done by the Bronx zoo in NY & The Roger Williams Park Zoo on the rare New England cottontail rabbits? It was in one of the Bronx zoo's shows on Animal Planet, recently. It talked about how the rare New England cottontail rabbits are being pushed out by Eastern Cottontails. They are helping out by breeding the rare ones & helping to return them to the wild thru a partnership with The Roger Williams park zoo's special release program. It was really interesting. The Icy Waters colors look great. I also looked up Professor T. It sounds similar to the tv show Monk, so I've set it up to record new episodes & the repeat of the 1st episode showing tonight on a PBS station at 2 a.m. Great bag & good luck at the Big E.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of the deer and bunny! It's a smorgasbord there for them! Those are fun cards, and a pretty fabric pull, too. Hope you get worked out what you want to do.
ReplyDeleteProfessor T, UK version does feel less of a transition from the original series with Miller in the role. I hope he works out his rigid stiff edge in favor of the intense edge the original actor does so well.

Love the photos of the deer. The one was pushing the limits though. I bet it is much quieter without the GP. I wouldn't even want to guess how long it takes me to make a quilt. I know just ironing and cutting fabric for a step took me about 3 hours.
ReplyDeleteI guess there's plenty of deer this year since we both have them in our posts! I have always wanted to keep track of how long I spend on a quilt but I've never done it. It's tough to figure out. Will you get more foster guinea pigs? Love your bag!
ReplyDeleteWe have a deer with a fawn coming round but haven't gotten a photo of them together yet. There is one particular hosta here they love to eat but since I've got so many I don't really care. No I can't imagine the time spent on the quilts I make as usually hand sewn so like a gazillion hours. Those fabrics are perfectly arrayed, imo. Of course I would love those very whimsical cards as well. We share similar tastes in things it seems.
