I Like Thursday: Visits, Sunlight and Shadows

Mom came over for the weekend.  She brought some of my dollhouse stuff and a newspaper clipping Boston Globe from 1959.  Five industrial arts classes in the Boston Public Schools volunteered to make dollhouses to donate to local hospitals.  This photo features my grandfather and the dollhouse is nearly identical to the one he built my mother years before.  How cool is that?

That dollhouse will be a new project next year - it needs some work and updating.  I'm looking forward to sprucing it up.

During her visit we walked near my sister's place, and I loved the colors of the late afternoon.  Utterly New England.

Look at the long grass that is aglow with the setting sun.

This is the pond behind my sister's place we often kayak.  There is a Christmas tree floating in the water (hiding in the shadows just right of center).  The lights are lit up - it must be very pretty at night.  It was dark enough we could enjoy the lights, but they didn't show up in the photo.  Regardless, isn't the sky and the reflections beautiful?

This Monday I took the opportunity to deliver cookies to friends and coworkers.  It was a great way to spend the day.  I visited with some friends I hadn't seen in two years.  Wow!  Met (in person) a couple of coworkers I've been working for a year.  Neat!  Finally some faces for the names and voices I know so well.  Even better, caught up with a pair of coworkers I had worked at in my prior company, too.  I hadn't seen them in a couple of years, either.

Real people.  So many hugs.  How lovely.

On a lark, I stopped by my old vet as well, to surprise her with a few goodies.

In turn, I picked up some goodies, plus this pretty framed photo from one of my chick weekend gals.  The essence of Eastham and Kripalu rolled in one.  Excellent!

My last stop of Monday included a short hike - it stopped raining and warmed up enough for a nice stroll.  We came across this tree which had an odd assortment of fruit, veggies and flowers tucked between branches and scattered around the roots:  squash, potatoes and gourds, Indian corn, a split pomegranate, sage, flowers and garlic.  Interesting.  I have no idea the purpose of this.

I've been working on the latest quilt - I'll post the latest on that soon (no photos yet).  I hope to do some sandwiching this weekend!

I got my booster shot last night (yay)... we'll see how I feel today (hmm).

I managed to finish the last of my upgrades at work.  Had a few bumps along the way, but all seems to be running smoothly now.  So glad to have it done!

And lastly - Rob is picking up another foster today.  I'm told it's a shy singleton sow.  Time to spoil her rotten and show her humans can be nice.

A busy, busy week.  Lots of happy, happy stuff, though.  Linking up to I Like Thursday over at Not Afraid of Color.

  2. Your “walk” photos are so pretty! Beautiful area. I wonder if someone left the veggies for the wildlife? I read somewhere, that if you had leftover pumpkins, to leave them for the deer. But splitting was suggested! Will be watching for pictures of your new foster!

  3. Love the photo of your dad and the other fellows working on the dollhouse. How exciting you will be working on one similar in the new year. The dollhouse must have many memories attached to it. Your sister lives in a pretty and tranquil spot. Lovely photos of New England. The setting sun on the landscape is enchanting. How lovely you were able to catch up with your co-workers after all this time....and with your mum, too.

  9. Hi Sally! I am fascinated and in love with that doll house!!! How cool. I'm so glad your Mom brought along the news clipping and that you shared it with us. I cannot wait to see you begin to work on it. Take plenty of pictures, please. I want to see all the gory and wonderful details. Yay to being having a new foster for the holidays. Spoiling sounds like the best course of action as I'm certain that she will be joining two wonderful and nice humans! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
