I Like Thursday: Gratitude

A few days ago I was in the middle of a mundane task when it hit me what a lucky life I lead.  That I have the time and the luxury to be making a bed, topped with a quilt I created, in a warm and comfortable house, looking forward to a weekend of dancing with friends and time with my partner.

I like the apple sauce and strawberry jam my friend just gave me.  I look forward to her apple sauce every year.  She gave me several more jars to deliver to various friends.  I enjoy how they light up when they get her apple sauce.  It's fun to be the delivery person.

I like that I've wrapped up some small stuff:  a new skirt I will dance in on Friday, some knot bags.

I'm so excited!  A friend of mine loaned me Lethal White.  I've been waiting for this book to come out and figured I'd have to wait even more before I could borrow it from the library.  It's going to keep me up at nights, but I should finish over the weekend.  Woot!

I like when I get to the last four laps of swimming.  I remember as a kid to graduate from Intermediate swimming you had to be able to swim four laps each of the crawl, side stroke and breast stroke.  I remember crawl was the hardest to finish.  So when I get down to my last four laps, I think:  I can do this!  Only four left!

I like Rumi poetry and recently finished a book of poems.  I tagged a number of them so I could find them and read again.  This was one I liked:

Two Days of Silence
After days of feasting, fast.
After days of sleeping, stay awake
one night.  After these times of bitter
storytelling, joking, and serious
considerations, we should give ourselves
two days between layers of baklava
in the quiet seclusion where soul sweetens
and thrives more than with language.

  2. Warmed my spirit. I was grumpy today. It's 34 degrees. You made me smile and be thankful! I just need some of that applesauce!

  3. Gratitude!! Definitely something I should keep in mind! And I'm super excited about Lethal White. No spoilers-- I'm on the list for it at the library. There were 76 people on the list before me, so it'll probably be a while before I get to read it, but I love those books.

  8. This is a beautiful post. I love that feeling when it washes over me and I realize just how fortunate I am to have the life I have. Such a great sense of gratitude and this is a good reminder to focus on what we do have rather than what we might wish for. Very well written.
